I’ve never been one to refrain from a topic because it has been categorized as taboo, especially when it pertains to women’s reproductive health. As a woman, our bodies experience more change than our counterparts from puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and menopause. As we mature in these various season things that once operated one way seems to shift overnight. The unfortunate truth is that we don’t always feel comfortable speaking about these changes and tend to “suffer” in silence out of a lack of knowledge or embarrassment. This is where I enter with all thing’s woman and all things vaginas! Our first detailed blog couples two procedures because one targets the internal tissues of the vagina, and the other focuses on the external portion.
If you experience vagina dryness, vaginal laxity, or a surprise leakage of urine upon coughing, sneezing, or exercising, the FemiLift™ procedure may help. This treatment utilizes advanced CO2 fractional laser pixels to help reduce dryness, tighten the vaginal tunnel, correct urinary incontinence by strengthening your urethral muscles and bladder, and increase pleasure during intercourse, which can be painful as a result of menopause. FemiLift™ uses laser technology by way of inserting a probe into the vagina which exerts a thermal stimulatory effect for tightening, and micro channels formation in the vaginal walls that stimulate new cell formation, increasing collagen, elastin, and lubrication. The results can last up to 24 months before a repeat maintenance session is necessary, although patients opt to repeat once a year to ensure lasting results. The most common side effects include minor cramps and a watery discharge spotted with blood, that should stop within about three days, however the majority of patients do not experience any side effects. Cost per treatment can run around $1500 with clinics offering package deals. The number of treatments can vary but it’s common to have 3 sessions to get the desired results, unless you are treating stress urinary incontinence where 4 treatments are recommended.
The FemiTight™ is an alternative treatment that tightens the delicate region of the outer labia major. This procedure also uses CO2 laser technology to gently heat the vaginal tissue, resurfacing the tissue while triggering the production of collagen and elastin which tightens the labia major area to create a more sculpted region. The procedure can take 15-30 minutes and starts anywhere from $300-$1000 per treatment. There is little to no discomfort reported with this procedure, and although one session typically brings immediate results, some doctors recommend three sessions to achieve the results you are looking for.
Even though these two procedures are cosmetic, and insurance doesn’t necessarily cover them, there really isn't a price when it comes to your selfcare. Most of us set things in place to improve our quality of life, make us feel better about ourselves, or just because we want to. At the end of the day do you!
