Today’s holistic healing entry is centered around juicing. I’ve spoken many times before about the benefits of juicing, so I’ll spare you the dissertation as to why it’s necessary for holistic health, but will give you a brief recap:
Why juice?
Juicing allows the body to quickly and easily absorb nutrients provided by live whole foods without having to go through the digestive process, which is very energy intensive. Eating raw whole food is purposeful in aiding to clean out the colon, so a balance between eating and juicing is needed, however the fibers themselves once broken down as cellulose add no nutritional value. The live food nutrients, in the form of enzymes, antioxidants, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins, are separated from the plant fibers to be absorbed into the blood stream to detox, repair, and regenerate our bodies. The more servings you take in throughout the day provides a continuous natural flow of what is needed for healing the ailment. Look at it in such a way as a doctor prescribing medication to be taken daily every 3 hours until the duration is completed. So, when we consume the juice, it now becomes “plant medication” addressing the root of the ailment and not just the symptom that has manifested.
Below are 3 juice recipes, no more than 2 ingredients, that are easy to make and packed with essential nutrients, aiding you on your holistic health journey. Each recipe yields about 32oz of juice. Be sure to consume fresh juice within 3 days of preparation.
Pineapple/Purple Cabbage Juice
1 small head of purple cabbage
1 medium sized pineapple
This collagen producing combo contains anti-inflammatory properties, improves skin health and detoxification, and supports gut health. Red cabbage is rich in anthocyanins and antioxidants, while pineapple contains bromelain, which has been shown to reduce inflammation. Both are also excellent sources of vitamin C, beneficial for skin and immune function.
Carrot/Beet Juice
2-pound bag carrots
2 medium size beets (use beet tops and roots)
Detoxifies the liver, improves digestion and metabolism, fights leukemia. Its rich antioxidant content boosts your immune system and supports healthy skin and hair. Good source of vitamins A, C, and K, potassium and manganese.
Celery Juice
2 ½ pounds celery
Normalizes body temperature, hydrates, purges body of carbon dioxide, aids in digestion, reduces inflammation, and supports heart health. It's also rich in vitamins and minerals like vitamin K, potassium, and folate, and contains antioxidants like flavonoids.
Juicing, in addition to healthy eating, sets you on a course to restore, revive, and rejuvenate your health. Bottoms up!
