Self-Care and Lifestyle Practices for Pelvic Pain

Last week we covered medical approaches for managing and correcting pelvic pain. Medical approaches are often coupled with some of the self-care and lifestyle adjustments we will discuss today for lasting results. It’s also good to note that the techniques covered today have been known to heal pelvic issues once adopted long term.

Self-Care Strategies

  • Gentle Exercises: Practicing light and gentle exercises, stretches, and walking improves blood flow and reduces pain.

  • Rest and Relaxation: During periods of intense pain, prioritize resting and relaxation techniques to release cortisol levels and encourage endorphins.

  • Dietary Adjustments: Reducing your caffeine and alcohol intake, implementing food portion size, or introducing herbs into your diet can help to manage pain.

  • Heat and Cold Therapy: Applying heat or ice packs can help reduce pain and inflammation.

Lifestyle Adjustments

  • Stress Management: Start a relaxation routine such as meditation or deep breathing to reduce stress and tension, and remove stressors or triggers in your life.

  • Inner Healing Sessions: Periodically schedule an inner healing session to do “heart checks”. Pain is often linked to bottled up trauma or emotions that need to be released. These sessions allow Holy Spirit to expose the hurt for healing.

  • Quit Smoking: Smoking can worsen pain and inflammation.

  • Seek Support: Connect with support groups or therapists to help you cope with the emotional impact of chronic pain.

  • Stay Active: Staying involved in activities you enjoy can help manage pain and improve your quality of life.

As I’ve said before, we sometimes have made peace with the pain or have become so accustomed to it that we continue to ignore what our body is communicating to us. Living with chronic pain is not a norm that our bodies should ever conform to. Simple life changes could open the door to pain reduction while seeking professional help in creating and executing a treatment plan towards healing.
